Pity the fool who dances on the corner
His moves badangling, a goofy surprise
A jelly legged man called a porter
Disguised in a black suit and shiny
cap.
Braggarts in the kitchen's closet
Smacking sticks and taking names.
Pity the fool who dances on the corner
His exploits wrangling, a roofy arise
A mad hatter and colorful suitor
Rambling in curses upon a sap.
This is in response to the Midweek Motif over at Poet's United.
This is so beautifully written.. love the picture :D So authentic!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week ahead :)
What do you think made this poem seem so authentic to you?
DeleteKenn, so nice to see you! I can see that raggedy man with his loose-limbed legs dangling.......I admire the clever rhyme scheme in this poem.
ReplyDeleteI was in a poetry writing mood, and so I wrote a couple. I really enjoyed playing with the rhyme scheme in this as well.
DeleteI almost expected to see Charlie Chaplin.
ReplyDeleteBlack and white images tend to bring up those sort of memories. I've always liked black and white images for that reason, and because it forces people to imagine the colors that are absent from within it.
DeleteIt is hard to imagine times past when we are living in such a fast moving apparently affluent age. It was slower, sadder and poorer then in many ways which quite easily could return by our own foolishness.
ReplyDeleteI honestly wouldn't be surprised if it comes around once again. I am starting to see some of the past conflicts arise.
Deleteoh yes how the other half lives...your description is vivid, poetical within the restriction of a tight rhyme scheme...very clever...
ReplyDeleteThank you for the wonderful comment Sumana. :) I try my best to create something unique every time I write.
DeleteI like the way you have described three different kinds of fools! Nice to see you posting once again, Kenn.
ReplyDeleteYes, it has been quite some time. I guess I felt I was in a poetic mood. That and life has been a little less busier.
DeleteYou have captured the mood and feeling so wonderfully..it really hammers into the soul
ReplyDeleteThanks Jae! I'm glad that it had that effect on you. Poems are suppose to connect on a personal level, and so it has.
DeleteNow I have Mister T.in my head reading poetry. Great poem, the mood is consistent and it's very vivid.
ReplyDelete(Lol) I'm kind of intrigued on how Mr. T came to read this, but that is quite funny. Now I need to get him to do a voice over of it.
DeleteHaha - I thought of him too...
