Singing Stones

Crumbling mortar and graying bricks
Tumbling down, tumbling down
Covering blighter and singing cricks
Tumbling down, tumbling down
Varying weather and dusting nicks
Tumbling down, tumbling down

Wherefore lingers thy darling
Her moans and screams
Wherefore augers thy failing
O'er loams it seems

Tumbling down, tumbling down
Tumbling down, tumbling down

Peanut Butter & Jelly

Remember your favorite sandwich as a kid? You know, the one that your mother served you without the crust and was smothered in delicious marmalade, nut butter, and wild berry sauce. This poem is inspired by the moments when I was younger and pulled a delicious sandwich out from my lunch bag at school, while everyone else had snack cakes or fruit roll ups. Nothing beats a classic peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Thank you Karin Gustafson for this memory inducing challenge over at Imaginary Toads! Enjoy!

"Classic Peanut Butter and Jelly" Image: IGN Thread
So creamy and desirable, you drive me nuts
Not so much coo-coo for cocoa puffs
More like "would you like wine or peanuts, sir."
A honey stricken delicacy dripping
Upon the buds of a novelty restaurant:
62 West Barker Street; the Hidden Pantry.

Sherlock would be jealous of your perfections;
a colada of wild berries and peaches,
smothered in a nutty hazelnut blanket,
atop two soft mattresses of wheat and rye.
Buds jumping up and down like children,
Shouting on repeat, "its peanut butter jelly time."

Through The River of Time

"Flowing River" by Sigmar32 (Deviant Art)

Time spins around this world rapidly and slow;
A perfect mixture in the bowl,
That creates realities and memories, good or bad.
It is the ebb of the soul:
Dark light;
That shines our destined path bright.
Nothing sad,
Can eat our time away.
Not when time spins with even flow,

Like a river in May.

This poem was written in response to Kerry's Flash 55 PLUS challenge over at Imaginary Garden With Real Toads.

Lavandula

"Single lavendar flower02". Licensed under GFDL 1.2 via Wikimedia Commons - http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Single_lavendar_flower02.jpg#mediaviewer/File:Single_lavendar_flower02.jpg

A Magi of the Canary traveled to Verde
On a quest for milk of the violet mint;
A precious gem native to the Old World.

It is said to be the alchemist's holy grail,
An herb with mystical healing properties
Of the brain and the deprived senses.

The Magi traveled over briny seas
Over temperate mountains,
And through many lands unknown.

He couldn't find this milky whey
No matter which direction he swayed
Until he collapsed upon a bed of flowery.

Nearly asleep a smell enlightened his sight
Opening his mind with a steady calm,
As a shade of blue fell upon his mire.

“Lavandula, my precious desire
I've found you at last.”

This poem was written as a response to Hannah's challenge, Nature's Wonder, over at the Imaginary Garden With Real Toads. Lavender seems like the type of flower that gives off loving pheromones that make one desirable, kind of like a perfume.

Written In The Thorns

"Pink Tiger Lily" Image by Chalet Roome-Rigdon
I'm a blossoming flower:

Lustful and desirable slithering viper
Open-minded, caring of others.
Verdant delicate petals of poison
Eloping laws of nature full bloom.

Pink polka, dots of red
Outside the normal kinship.
Excepting my nerves, a Greek tragedy
Trying to sing aloud in tonal irregularity.
Regular people beware my venomous bite

Yonder the cultural garden in which I write.

This poem is in response to Mama Zen's Word Count challenge over at the Imaginary Garden. (Exactly 60 words.)

The Ball At The End Of The Knight

"Clashing Swords" from TV Tropes
Clasped in steel threads
Men at arms facing one another
Like soldiers ready for battle
Armed with swords and shields
Both extensions of their body
In fashionable order they draw
Order and procedure demanding
Taking one step forward
Dead hard glares on the prize
Their enemies closing in
One step at a time
Performing a sort of waltz
Until they're face to face
A war horn sounds off
Let the battle commence.

I'll Share Winter With You

This is a poem that was inspired by Fireblossom Friday's wintry challenge across the way to the Imaginary Garden. Winter is always better shared with each other because we can feel the warmth from each other's words.

Acadia National Park from Pixabay
Feel the cold chill of the winter
With a warm heart, and sunder
The hills blanketed in the white
And a stream covered in light
Rolling along so close to home
A place full and called wonderland.

Sleeping With The Seeds

I wanted to share this poem with Real Toads for the Tuesday Platform because it is a message that all of us need and deserve to hear. I'm not much of a person for religion, but I do believe that we "reap what we sow" sort of speak. Please pass this poem down and make our world just that much brighter.
"Faith in the Seeds" from CN Life Ministries

A spot of soil from the earth does spring
A curled and tucked in seed it brings
Cupped in our hand and cradled softly
Gently swayed and rocked into the dirty
To be sprayed down with aqueous care
And in the mist spurts a elegant vine affair.

A seedling reaching up into the clouds
Searching far and wide for fertile growth
Sprouting leaves like branches of a tree
One day reaching further into the sky
As long as a drought doesn't befall
Upon this fertile ground it called home.

Together our will sleeps with the seeds
For in their eyes sparkle the lost wisdom
Their vines reaching out for the poor
Quenching the thirst and hunger that pains
All of the this earth that trembles so easily
Quake in the moment of hushed adversity.

Thought for the Reader: Plant a seed for someone that you care for, and let the future look just that much brighter.

A Chapter of Lightning

This is a poem in response to the Sunday Mini-challenge from the Imaginary Garden. I was motivated to write this piece based loosely off from David Huerta's "Fruit." Enjoy!

"Lightning Awareness" from the DKI Blog
A single flash covers the sky in white
Streaking across the blackened surface
For a moment there is silence...

The Cloud

This poem was written for the Road Trip challenge in Imaginary Gardens With Real Toads. It holds a lot of value to my childhood because it entails some of the imaginations I had when going for a ride in the car. I'd look out the window and this is what I would see. Enjoy!
"Car Cloud" from Driver Layer
I face the wind before me on this empty cloud
I hold no promises, but I'll get there some how
Where would I go, I don't know
But I know this cloud will bring me there.

Metal Horses

"Cowboy Biker" from Cole's Classic
We are cowboys of the road
Raging forth from the asphalt
Revving the motor our war drum
As we raise our bandannas high
Signs are posted at every pit stop
“Wanted. Dead or Alive.”
Instead of heeding warning we ride
Our colts and mustangs into the wild
Guns a blazing and saddles a roaring

"Man, you gotta go."

In remembrance of Galen Haynes a.k.a. Mr. Knowitall and his Flash 55 brand. I may not have known you personally, but I'm sure your poems were grand!

Mrs. Quill & Mr. Inkpot

“For last year's words belong to last year's language And next year's words await another voice.”
T.S. Eliot, Four Quartets

"Quill and Ink" from Gallery Hip
Words hold so much meaning to a quill
Because it gives her a chance to mingle
With the likes of hunky ink pot,
And on occasions where parchment is necessary
The quill and ink mate together well;
Like two rivers swirling in a rapid dance.
As the quill and ink ages through the years
They can look back at what they have wrote
And continue that story into the future.
I mean that is what writing is all about right?
Continuing one's life story from one year
All the way into the next, without regrets.

Untitled

Here is my submission for Get Listed 2014 on the Imaginary Garden. In a way, I attached this story to the previous post that I made earlier, Life Magazine, and could easily be read together. This would be the moral of the story at the end of the rainbow. Enjoy! Happy New Year everyone!

"A Very Britain New Year" by Christmas Tree Shops
When the shadows of the distant past travels up your spine
A sort of tingle grips you from the inside out
In an embrace that is both chilling and full of enamor,
But those shadows are just water under the bridge
Because in the rise of an upcoming step towards the future
We have so much steam, and begin to realize that commodity
Doesn't always fit like a glove, but rather falls short
Of what few possibilities that may be in front of our eyes.
Taking opportunity in mid stride is like sitting on the bed,
Dangling your fit off from the edge of a cliff,
And listening to the musical notes of trepidation
Falling upon the floor-boards gentle as a feather.
Look to the horizon for something beyond near sight,
Upon the bridge of your nose, and take a leap.
Only then will you realize that all the shadows behind you
Are just simple patterns on the wallpaper of life.

Here are the words that I used for this Real Toads challenge: music, few, grip, feather, glove, steam, embrace, rise, fall, water, shadow, bed.

Question: No question this time, just a Happy New Year wish from me to you, my readers! :)

Rhythm

This is a poem dedicated to the Play It Again, Toads! #12 challenge of revitalizing an archived challenge. For this one in particular I have chosen to revitalize the In Five Minutes or Less challenge.

"Musical Notes" by Pixabay
The heavy drop of the beat
Thump thump thumping
To the rhythm of the strings
Whose stinging slips through
ear holes
In and out of my brain
A symbol tings
with aluminum and brass
The percussion drift so smooth
I guess it is just a one man band
But then again it is simple sounds
Mashed together in perfect harmony
It is like ecstasy to my ears
My secret overdose of drugs

That we call music

Question: "What tampers with your passions?"

Artistic Interpretations Challenge: Wonder

"Beauty is a form of genius - is higher, indeed, than genius, as it needs no explanation."  -- Oscar Wilde

This poem is in dedication to the Artistic Interpretations Challenge at the Imaginary Garden With Real Toads.

"Landscape Composition" by M. Bednar
As I stand here in wonder
I can't help but to ponder
What is beyond those mountains?
Is it the endless blue sky
Whose clouds soar and fly,
Or the sea of endless mounds
That are upon earthly bounds?

Real Toads Challenge: Year of Memories

"Memories Will Never Fade" by Franzey Fragility
(Frost Box)
This is for the Real Toads challenge Broken Hearts & Auto Parts as posted by Marian. Hope you all enjoy it! :)

It has been a speed-ball this year
Going from one place to another
As if the original didn't matter
Just to look over your shoulder
At the place you used to hover
Just for mere seconds it would seem
Although it had been for a century

Real Toads Challenge: Fighting Is For the Reckless

"Fighting in the Streets"
(Art of Manliness)
Is it plausible that man kind could do
Such a thing as revel in a slew
Of accusatory actions, that will lead
Into a horrible Greek tragedy?
Everywhere there seems to be plight
Devastation in the air, bombs take flight
Shaking the very foundation we stand
Upon a deserted company of land.
What qualms could there be
To break that breaking point
Where weapons are the key

Open Link Monday: A Murder of Crows Left Behind

"Wheatfield With Crows" by Vincent Van Gogh
(Wikimedia)
When I saw the crows that morning
I knew there would be a murder
Nothing too typical, but caustic
Stains on my relished ego.
I can’t help but wonder
About you, who I loved
Those many years…
