Poetry Jam: Pages of Joy

"I Can Read You Like An Open Book" by Francois Phillip

Over and over the pages turn
Dust from the cover, and serve
A platter of words delicious and trite
Words that smother me in the night
Over and over the pages turn
Without suicidal cuts I assure
This mystery is an extraordinaire
At capturing criminals, out of thin air
Over and over the pages turn
Where the breath of fire serves
As an adventurous blight
For the warriors of light
As we climb atop that castle
Over and over the pages turn
Full of a clamor of choice
And abstract voices
Who beckon and call

For a reader who'll read them all.

Question: "What kinds of things make you joyful?"

    1. That will keep you busy during the holidays, if the actual holidays doesn't already keep you busy.

  2. I love books too.
Wish the world had MORE books & NO guns...
    Nicely expressed :)

    1. That "no guns" idea sounds terrific. Imagine if guns never existed and instead it was replaced with martial arts instead.

  4. Books are so important indeed. You have expressed this so well in your poem. Mysteries and adventures do take a person into another world. I have just gotten back into reading after quite a long hiatus.

(Kenn, so nice to see you at Poetry Jam!)

    1. Yes books are very important. I would really feel sympathetic for someone if they told me they never touched or read a book. Believe it or not there are some people out there just like that. Kind of scary.
I know what you mean about the hiatus. I almost never have time for reading a book anymore, so now I force myself to read something, even if it is only ten pages.

I'm glad to be a participant at Poetry Jam. :) The challenges are really fun.

    1. If we didn't have books I think we would have a different mindset of what it is like to be human. Books are a record of history.

    1. Exactly! :) That is why I feel it was really important to give a book to a child in need.

  8. Ahhhh books... Thinking of them I can smell them in the air! Because I've always been a quiet kid, books have always been a welcoming company. I've read a lot and I find it fascinating that it's impossible to have read everything.

When I was a teenager I read everything there was in my school library. I had this friend, we were always challenging each other to go to the corners where we had never been before. We liked mystery books, the school had Agatha Christie's collection, I can still recall my favorite stories. Growing up I took to science fiction and fantasy (I read on your profile you're a practiced table-top role-player - sooooo cool! I used to play AD&D, Gurps, Vampire and Mage back in my High school days! Then I grew up and had to start acting more like a girl, which never included wearing pink, but also drove RPGs off my limits. I miss being around such imaginative boys' minds.

Do you have a favorite book/author?

You've written a lot today, huh? I'm gonna check the other poems. See you in the next comment. Take care. :*

    1. Do you too also like the smell of a fresh book straight off from the shelf? I literally will smell the pages of a book sometimes. Obviously not when people are looking though, that would be awkward. I also like the smell of old books too oddly enough.

I played a lot of D&D, Pathfinder, and World of Darkness back in high school and throughout college. I don't play it as frequently anymore because of friends not being as lame as me by having a job. So scheduling a time to get together is almost impossible. So many great stories and characters were made back in the day though.

My favorite author of all time is R.A. Salvatore. Not just his Drizzt books, but also his books about Corona. I also like J.K. Rowling because I literally grew up with Harry Potter. Lastly, I enjoy just about every book there is from the Forgotten Realms. No joke.

I've been trying to keep up with all the blogroll challenges, hence all the posts I've done today.

I'm lying in bed with a blank page staring at me, waiting, just waiting for a poem to be born out of thin air apparently.

      Can't sleep.

  10. Oh, I loved this poem! I am a book lover, too, and I think there's no finer fragrance than a newly-opened book. Nice to see that there are others who enjoy that! I know that folks enjoy their downloads, but give me the printed word on paper every time. I collect old books. I read voraciously. Glad to have visited you today via Poetry Jam!

  11. I'm glad that you loved this poem! I enjoy reading online versions of books, but nothing is finer than having the physical copy in your hands.
