"Ice Skating" by Kafubra (Wikimedia) |
The winter chill settles around you
And it feels like you are numb
But then you feel the gliding pull
And sudden warmth from your thighs
To your feet.
Eventually the winter becomes
elegant
Like a dove or snowflake falling to
the ground
When you spin around and around
In twisting somersault of
perfection and expertise.
Zig zags
Cover the icey floor you’re
upon
And you begin to feel the shift
and sway
Carrying on to the music in the
background
Like jingles and jangles of
Christmas air
Escaping from the outside world for
just a glimmering moment
Just to crash to your bottom
And stand up tall.

I do think if you find a winter activity to enjoy, such as ice skating, winter is much more pleasant. I do like the shape of your poem...looks like ice skating strokes.
ReplyDeleteIsn't this time of the year wonderful. :) I'm glad you noticed the shape of the poem, a lot of people don't notice subtleties like that.

DeleteAh.. If but the ice would come.. to fly out on the ice is my heart's desire at the moment..
ReplyDeleteWhere do you live? The ice is already starting to form here where I live.
DeleteI, too, really like the way your poem is arranged on the page. You capture the "elegance" of winter beautifully in this poem. I love that unexpected and perfect choice of word. When the world is garbed in ice and crystal, it is the perfect word to use.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Sherry for the wonderful comment. I'm glad that you could enjoy my weaving of this poem. :) Hopefully you will also enjoy some of my other ones just as much.
DeleteI felt like I was skating with you through your words....in my poem today I mention sledding as I was not coordinating enough to stay on my feet and off my bottom on skates or skis.
ReplyDeleteAh, yes I remember the time I used to go sleighing. Oh how many times I could remember the sleigh slipping right from underneath of me. I would have to chase it all the way down the hill. Such great memories. :) I hope you get a chance to check out some of my other works as well.

Love the wintery feeling of your poem, winter is my favorite everything seems so peaceful.
ReplyDeleteWhile winter may not be my favorite season, because autumn is my favorite, but I enjoy seeing the snow covered trees as I drive by, and the colorful sunsets that come with the winter solstice.
DeleteThank you so much for taking the time to comment. :)
