Astrological Crabs

It grows rapidly within me.

Each day passing is a struggle.

In between the spaces of my voice

Lies a sore soul willing to speak

Not of sorrows and hard times

But of enlightenment and truth.

Do not fret for me my friends

For this isn't the death of me

Oh no!

For I am stronger than this

I was born a fighter

Like a tiger I will, roar!

This sickness isn't going to win

Like Balboa I will rise triumphant

No matter what the costs

No matter what the consequence

This crab among the stars

Will not be my last meal

For I loathe seashell food

It makes me sick to my stomach.

Though I tear my hair from my head

Stressed beyond all doubt

I fight this till the bitter end

I will win!

Post script: This poem was written and inspired by those who fight Cancer. These people are very strong individuals, and deserve all the support they can get. I also am submitting this as a response to Poet's United's Mid-Week Motif about Cancer. Keep fighting the good fight

  1. Wonderful! From your poem to the cells that multiply, to the people who need to hear this! When it began, I thought you were saying that you were a smoker and sun worshipper. I am glad that is not true!

    1. I wasn't really talking about myself Susan, but I'm glad that I'm not a smoker. Never have and never will. As for the sun worship, probably not going to happen unless I was a caveman.

  2. The willingness to fight is so important. So much can be achieved from a positive attitude. However the ferryman will be waiting whatever, regardless how healthy you are. So live your life to the fullest while you can.

    1. It really is important to fight Old Egg, I agree. These people need all the support they can get, and I feel like they deserve to live a life that they otherwise might not have somewhere down the line.

    1. Thanks Sherry, one of the most important things I can give to someone with cancer is the words of hope.

  4. The human will is strong and many times that is what helps those stricken survive as they simply will not give up until that last breath is taken. This poem ends on a strong note 'I will win"..let it be so...
