"Fresh Start" from The MEGA Coach |
I open the window to let in some fresh
air
The smells of wood burning to ash
Freshly fallen snow on the ground
A cold breeze nipping at the nose
And several small icicles waiting to
fall.
I open the refrigerator door and what
do I see
But a bottle of corked wine and a plate
of cheese
Time for some fresh elegance in liquid
suede
And indulgent fervor of a unquenchable
appetite.
This is a fresh moment waiting to be
seen.
I jump from the plant with my parachute
To hang glide over the mountains below
That I know I certainly will begin to
climb
All the way to the tippy top of the
peak
Because that is just as fresh too.
Some say that freshness is like
Fabreeze
One spray and all the odor is gone
But the odor still remains like a gas
Lingering under the nostrils like
perfume
A reminiscent smell of the good ol'
times.
On this day I wonder what is more
fresh?
Taking a leap of faith over the sun
Or swelling over the odors of
yesterday.
All I know is I like to keep things
fresh
And adventure seems to be calling my
name.
Question to the Reader: How do you like to keep it fresh?
I like how your poem engages the different senses, maybe a necessary step before one can keep it fresh.
ReplyDeleteI was taught that poetry needed to involve the senses somehow, and this is a result of those teachings I guess. Glad that it was engaging.
DeleteLove love love your wordplay here! You've gone and gotten me thinking on 'fresh' and all its connotations! SNHU, huh? I, too graduated there ... education major ... it's a small world!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy you enjoyed this poem and that it influenced you in some way! That means that I am doing my job as an author and poet. It is really a small world after all isn't it? I never thought I would meet someone from the same school as me on here.
DeleteI like this very much, Kenn. I believe very much in fresh air. I do think we need fresh air in our life as well as the knowledge that we can always make a fresh start. I smiled about Fabreeze. Actually Fabreeze is not 'fresh' at all (smiles), but a disguise. Perhaps for some people that is as fresh as it gets! We all definitely need some fresh adventures...some fresh poetry...some fresh ideas. So nice to see you at Poetry Jam. A fresh face is always welcome. Smiles.
ReplyDeleteThanks, I'm glad to be a part of it. I was trying to interpret different forms of freshness in this one.
DeleteAnd you did very well with that! Smiles.
DeleteAh the many ways to think about "fresh." It is sometimes hard to keep life feeling fresh. Take a leap has its appeal but so does remembering the aromas of yesterday.
ReplyDeleteThere is a lot of freshness to be had in some many different places.
DeleteAll I know is I like to keep things fresh
ReplyDeleteAnd adventure seems to be calling my name.
One gets the feel. It takes real efforts to push forward fresh ideas and efforts. Only then what comes back are the ones expected and yearned for. Old ideas just fizzle off not of much benefit. Truly said! Great write Kenn!
Hank
Thanks Hank! I'm glad to know that there are those out there who understand the importance of bringing forth fresh ideas.
Delete" And adventure seems to be calling my name", yes golden summers just calling us
ReplyDeleteRight around the corner, and past all this undesirable wintry blight, are golden summers for sure.
Deleteyou listened and hear the call of adventure, nice "Fresh" your word for 2015 is exciting - best wishes, i'h happy you dropped in at my blog
ReplyDeletemuch love...
It was a wonderful prompt Gill, and I was happy to be part of it.
DeleteI like the word you play with this year: fresh. 'fresh elegance' ~ sounds so cool! Happy fresh New Year!
ReplyDeleteMay there be plenty of freshness this year for you too!
DeleteFresh such a living and vibrant word and this really comes through in your poem. Love it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for noticing it and taking the time to read Alan.
DeleteKenn, enjoyed your analogies and your poem. Fresh air and adventure are the best ways to keep things fresh :-) Sometimes I need to take a break to stay fresh, too :-)
ReplyDeleteSometimes I surround myself in the clutter of my desk and house, but there are some days where I need to escape for a while.
DeleteI like the open window, the keeping it fresh, the fresh start. All welcome signs of a new year!
ReplyDeleteI was literally looking out my sliding door to the outside porch when I wrote this, so the window part came from that. Can't wait to see what this year brings. I'm pretty optimistic and content about it.
DeleteHi Kenn, I do hope that you take a look at the poems of those from Poetry Jam who commented on your poem. I know you commented on mine....but...anyway I hope you will be able to take the time to visit the poem of others as well.
ReplyDeleteI got really bogged down the day I posted this up, but I will try to comment on the others as well.
DeleteFreshness it what keeps us going through. Change for me is what adds freshness to my life :) Nice poem :)
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy a good change here and there, but sometimes I dislike too much change. It is like baking for the first time. You have to make sure all the right amount of ingredients is in the recipe. A balance of freshness to go with your salad of life.
