One Word: Fresh

"Fresh Start" from The MEGA Coach
I open the window to let in some fresh air
The smells of wood burning to ash
Freshly fallen snow on the ground
A cold breeze nipping at the nose
And several small icicles waiting to fall.

I open the refrigerator door and what do I see
But a bottle of corked wine and a plate of cheese
Time for some fresh elegance in liquid suede
And indulgent fervor of a unquenchable appetite.
This is a fresh moment waiting to be seen.

I jump from the plant with my parachute
To hang glide over the mountains below
That I know I certainly will begin to climb
All the way to the tippy top of the peak
Because that is just as fresh too.

Some say that freshness is like Fabreeze
One spray and all the odor is gone
But the odor still remains like a gas
Lingering under the nostrils like perfume
A reminiscent smell of the good ol' times.

On this day I wonder what is more fresh?
Taking a leap of faith over the sun
Or swelling over the odors of yesterday.
All I know is I like to keep things fresh
And adventure seems to be calling my name.

Question to the Reader: How do you like to keep it fresh?

  1. I like how your poem engages the different senses, maybe a necessary step before one can keep it fresh.

    1. I was taught that poetry needed to involve the senses somehow, and this is a result of those teachings I guess. Glad that it was engaging.

  2. Love love love your wordplay here! You've gone and gotten me thinking on 'fresh' and all its connotations! SNHU, huh? I, too graduated there ... education major ... it's a small world!

    1. I'm so happy you enjoyed this poem and that it influenced you in some way! That means that I am doing my job as an author and poet. It is really a small world after all isn't it? I never thought I would meet someone from the same school as me on here.

  3. I like this very much, Kenn. I believe very much in fresh air. I do think we need fresh air in our life as well as the knowledge that we can always make a fresh start. I smiled about Fabreeze. Actually Fabreeze is not 'fresh' at all (smiles), but a disguise. Perhaps for some people that is as fresh as it gets! We all definitely need some fresh adventures...some fresh poetry...some fresh ideas. So nice to see you at Poetry Jam. A fresh face is always welcome. Smiles.

  4. Ah the many ways to think about "fresh." It is sometimes hard to keep life feeling fresh. Take a leap has its appeal but so does remembering the aromas of yesterday.

One gets the feel. It takes real efforts to push forward fresh ideas and efforts. Only then what comes back are the ones expected and yearned for. Old ideas just fizzle off not of much benefit. Truly said! Great write Kenn!

    1. I was literally looking out my sliding door to the outside porch when I wrote this, so the window part came from that. Can't wait to see what this year brings. I'm pretty optimistic and content about it.

    1. I always enjoy a good change here and there, but sometimes I dislike too much change. It is like baking for the first time. You have to make sure all the right amount of ingredients is in the recipe. A balance of freshness to go with your salad of life.
